• Notes
• from 26th February 1962 Aberdeen Press and Journal: LAST OF THE BISSET HOUSES - The Aberdeen firm of R S BISSET (Builders) Ltd who have built hundreds of private houses in the city and North-East have been sold to BETT BROTHERS Ltd, Dundee. Confirming the sale last night, Mr David Gove (Reg's brother-in-law), a director of R S BISSET said "The firm will cease to exist on March 31st but we will finish all our contracts." Bett Brothers a large firm with building sites and contracts at Dollar, Stirling, Perth, Kirkcaldy, and Dunfermline as well as Dundee will take over the Aberdeen firm's staff as well as their premises said Mr Gove. "TOO OLD" - The sale has been brought about through the ill-health of Mr Reginald S Bisset, head of the firm and one of the city's best known building contractors. Mr Gove, added "Apart from that, he and I are getting too old. In private building you have to look years ahead." Bisset houses have been a by-word in Aberdeen since the 1930s. "BOXMAKERS" - For many years they were built by the firm of JOHN BISSET AND SONS Ltd, founded by the late Mr John Bisset, father of Mr R S Bisset about the turn of the century. The firm were originally saw millers and boxmakers. Several years ago that firm went into voluntary liquidation and in 1935 Mr R S Bisset who had been a director in his fathers company formed the present business.
