SLEAFORD-COKER
A quiet but pretty wedding was celebrated at the home of the bride's mother, Kabra, on September 16, when Rev. H. J. Garrett, of Rockhampton,
solemnised the marriage of John Alfred, third son of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Sleaford, of Walterhall, and Edna May, second daughter of
Mrs. and the late Mr. H. Coker, Kabra. The drawing-room was suitably decorated for the occasion by Mr. F. H. Morrell, with palms and flowers,
and over the bridal pair a large wedding bell was suspended.
The bride, who was given away by her eldest brother (Mr. W. F. Coker), wore an ankle-length gown of white bridal satin, with a fully-flared skirt
and long tight-fitting bodice and finish- ed at the natural waistline with a narrow belt and diamente buckle. Her tulle veil, which was beautifully
embroidered, was worn with a wreath of orange blossoms, and was lent by a friend of the bride. She carried a bouquet of Lady Hillingdon roses and
St. Jacob's Ladder and bridal fern, finished with satin streamers. The bride was attended by Miss. Lillian Sleaford (sister of the bridegroom),
who wore a frock of mauve silk voile, with a dainty mauve head- dress to match, She carried a bouquet of mauve stocks and ferns, with mauve streamers.
Little Norma Coker (cousin of the bride) made a dainty flower girl, wearing a pretty frock of lemon voile, and she carried a basket of yellow daisies.
Master Laurie Coker (nephew of the bride and bridegroom) acted as page, and wore a smart black velvet suit with a guipure lace collar and cuffs.
He carried a white satin cushion with silver horseshoe attached to it.Mr. Richard Sleaford (brother of the bridegroom) was best man.
After the ceremony the bridal party was motored by a friend, to the studios, Rockhampton, to be photographed. On returning the wedding breakfast
was partaken of, about 20 guests being present, the spacious verandah was decorated with lemon and lavender streamers by friends of the bride,
a large bell being suspended over the bridal couple. A feature of the breakfast table was a two tiered wedding cake ornamented with a
silver vase and white carnations. The bride's mother was frocked in a grey crepe de Chine gown, and a hat to match.
The bridegroom's mother wore a silver and black figured marocain frock, with a black hat. Many useful-presents were received.
The honeymoon was spent touring the North (Cairns, Kuranda, Green Island, Townsville, Ayr), and afterwards at Gympie and Bundaberg.
The bride's travelling frock was a blue taffeta de Chine, and she wore a hat to match.
