    Notes from John Stanhope: John Silver was described as wright, of Maryculter and Brachmount, and also of Couthill and of Burnside of Creinoch. His mother's tombstone inscription in Fetteresso refers to his death on 25 January 1724 at age 61, suggesting that he was born about 1662. He was the son of James Silver and Marian Colle. His known children included one by an unknown wife, and three by his much younger later wife Agnes<hr>
