Nunns of Suffolk

My name is Warren Nunn and I've been researching the Nunn surname for 20-plus years.

My family line mostly emanates from the villages of Chevington and Hargrave near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, England.

I've tracked the line back as far as Thomas Nunn (born about 1656) and Elizabeth Clark who married in Chevington in 1681.

The man pictured is Sir Sidney Kidman, a descendant of the Nunns of Nowton, Bury St Edmunds. He made his name in Australia and is sometimes referred to as the cattle king. The Australian Dictionary of Biography has an excellent article about his life.

NOTE: There is no confirmed connection between the Nunns of Nowton and those at Chevington. The villages are only about 12km (8 miles) apart.

FYI, the image at the top of this page is my father's family in 1948 - all 11 of them and their parents. My dad, Gordon, is standing, back right behind his mum, Winnie.

NOTE: This website was previously dedicated to a study of the Nunn surname on the 1851 census. That information still exists on html pages only. Click here if you are interested.
