14469 | When her son Henry went back to England in 1883, he arranged for a headstone to be placed on her grave according to notes in his diary. The inscription was to read: In memory of Mary Anne wife of William Aldridge who departed this life July 23rd 1855 aged 43 years. Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord. Erected by her son on his return from Australia.
Mary brought a child, William, into the marriage who, according to the 1851 census was born at Marylebone, Middlesex. But the wedding record says she was a spinster where she married William Aldridge. So, she may have bore her son out of wedlock. There is an IGI entry for a William Henry Smith born 19 Dec 1835 & christened 17 Jan 1836 at Saint Mary-St Marylebone Road, Saint Marylebone, London, England. He was the son of James Smith and Mary There was also a Sarah Smith born to the same parents: Birth: 16 Jan 1833, christened 10 Feb 1833 Saint Mary-St Marylebone Road, Saint Marylebone, London, England & died 25 Sep 1834. But these assumptions have to be viewed with suspicion on the basis of her spinster status when she married Wm Aldridge.
Identified on back in Henry Aldridge's handwriting | SMITH, Mary Ann (I18313084740)

Known as Albert Gardens, the building its U-shaped. There is a note in the record that the "sons took over the building''. Perhaps that's the reason William Coker and family returned to England from Australia. On the 1861 census, William J.T. Coker, ship's chandler, is running the family operation. When living in Melbourne, Australia, William may have been working as a painter/decorator.
| COKER, William John Tyler (I18313084474)
